EBB AND FLOW FIRST NATION COWS AND PLOWS
UPDATE
Ebb and Flow First Nation Leadership are excited to announce we are moving forward to submit our Treaty 2 Agricultural Benefits Specific Claim Submission (Cows and Plows) against Canada for the benefit of our community.
Our partners, Maurice Law have been working for the past years conducting the research, developing two historical reports, and drafting the legal argument. Maurice Law will submit the claim package on our behalf very shortly to begin this process.
Once our claim is submitted to Canada, it will undergo an initial 6-month review process for completeness. Once accepted for filing with Canada after the 6 month-review period, Canada will then have up to three years to review the claim to determine whether it wishes to negotiate a potential settlement of the Claim. If accepted for negotiation, the consultation process with the community would ramp up towards negotiating a potential settlement with Canada, which would require a community vote to ratify any settlement. Should the Claim not be accepted for negotiation, Ebb and Flow First Nation can proceed to the Specific Claims Tribunal instead to obtain a binding decision on Canada from a judge.
We will host information sessions and provide regular updates as we move the process along.
